Weeeee! I feel like I’m really accomplishing something here. I have eight hours left in my required 120-hour internship. Fun fact about only having eight hours left, I get TWO FULL DAYS off this weekend :). I’ve been doing a lot of weekend work to make sure I finished all of my hours before the fall semester really gets going, so this weekend will be a nice break.

Lots to do! Dwindling time.
I’m having a bit of trouble writing about my work this week, because it’s difficult for me to remember exactly what I did! There were a lot of different things. I’ll look at my journal and gather my thoughts.
Center for Advanced Visual Studies special collection
So this week I started migrating the Center for Advanced Visual Studies special collection finding aid from PDF form to ArchivesSpace. Holy moly! This is a big job. I haven’t had such a large AS task yet in any of my positions, so it feels like a big deal. The PDF is ninety-six pages long and covers 810 linear feet of materials. WOW! So I’ve spent twelve hours on it so far and I’m nowhere near halfway done. I’m going to keep plugging away!
LOC Authorities
This week I went back to the EMS finding aid to go over the subjects, related names, and other topic headings to connect this collection to others with the same topics. Originally I didn’t check everything on the Library of Congress authorities webpage (which I have used SO many times since I started school), because there were over 100 names on the list, but my graduate school advisor thought it would be good experience to check everything…
Creating a Draft
Today I started my WordPress draft for the Sky Art virtual exhibit. It’s taking longer than I thought it would, just because I’m not slapping up images and calling it a day. I’m trying to think about the placement of the images and text, as well as quotes from Piene himself. It’s really fun and I’ve learned SO much about this section of the art world, especially avant-garde pieces. I’d say that Piene’s work is definitely modern art that I can get behind…
Starting an Exhibit
I think I may have mentioned this before, but the new big assignment for my internship is creating an exhibit for Thera’s virtual museum! Starting projects like this is always difficult for me, because the more freedom I have to create, the more nervous and frozen I become…
Going to Boston (Well, Cambridge)
Thursday was the big day, the big trip into Boston that will eventually become commonplace for me in my experience as a grad student. It’s been a bit of a luxury for me, being able to do all of my work at home and not have to debate about which way is the best way for me to go into the city…
Moving On and Up
I’m happy to say that we have finished the EMS finding aid! It ended up being pretty intense (long and super detailed). It was a wonderful experience. The more finding aids I do, the more I learn, and the more comfortable I feel with them! …
Little Adjustments
Today’s work for my internship was fairly simple. The only thing I have assigned to me right now is the finding aid, so I decided to go in and clear up some stuff in the inventory list…
