Course: HIST 635 – Internship in Archives
Internship: Art, Culture and Technology Archives and Special Collections at MIT
Week 10 Time: Sun. 8/22, Mon. 8/23 – 12 hours
Total Time: 112 hours
Weeeee! I feel like I’m really accomplishing something here. I have eight hours left in my required 120-hour internship. Fun fact about only having eight hours left, I get TWO FULL DAYS off this weekend :). I’ve been doing a lot of weekend work to make sure I finished all of my hours before the fall semester really gets going, so this weekend will be a nice break.
This past week I buckled down to complete the EMS finding aid and I’m 95% sure that I did. There’s just some troubleshooting I need to do once the FA is published on ArchivesSpace (the input and output of the program can look very different). I finished up with the intellectual and physical arrangement yesterday. Today I created all of the “Agents” and “Subjects” and then applied them to their corresponding items.
In my last hour of work today, I was able to complete a side task that Thera asked me to do. I created two screen-shared videos, one of me explaining how to create an agent on AS (along with what all of the different tabs are for in agent creation), and one where I explained intellectual vs. physical arrangement in AS (confusing, definitely not intuitive). I felt that it would be much easier to follow a video of these things in real-time, rather than me trying to explain all of the steps in written words. Hopefully, Thera will find those helpful.
On Monday I’ll head up to MIT to finish the physical processing I’m working on and then work with Thera to prioritize the other unfinished assignments. I’ll still be able to finish everything outside of the 120 hours during the fall semester, so it’ll work out :).
